Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on 9 August 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singer Dionne Warwick. In her early years she performed in the New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Newark. Album was sold out in US 3,000,000 copies and then increased to 25 million globally. It gave her the first of her six Grammy Awards. It came with The Bodyguard of 1992 that turned her into one of the most successful musicians in recent history.
